Martensitic Stainless Steel Plate

Martensitic stainless steel is a class of stainless steel whose properties can be adjusted by heat treatment (quenching, tempering), that is, it is a class of hardenable stainless steel. According to the difference in chemical composition, martensitic stainless steel can be divided into two categories: martensitic chromium steel and martensitic chromium-nickel steel. Among them, martensitic chromium-nickel steel includes martensitic precipitation hardening stainless steel, semi-austenitic precipitation hardening stainless steel and martensitic aging stainless steel.

Main Features

Martensitic stainless steel contains 11.5%~18% chromium (Cr) and 0.1%~1.2% carbon (C), other alloying elements less than 2%~3%. In martensitic chromium stainless steel, in addition to chromium, carbon (C) is the other most important necessary elements. In martensitic chromium-nickel steel, the carbon content is low (less than 0.10%) and contains nickel, and some grades also contain high levels of molybdenum, copper and other elements.

High strength: Martensitic stainless steel has high strength, its yield strength and tensile strength are much higher than ordinary stainless steel.

Good corrosion resistance: Martensitic stainless steel has excellent corrosion resistance and can maintain stable performance in harsh corrosive environments. It can resist a variety of acids, alkalis, salts and other corrosive media, and has a long service life.

Good wear resistance: Martensitic stainless steel has high hardness and good wear resistance, and can maintain stable performance in high speed, high load and wear severe working conditions.

Excellent toughness: Martensitic stainless steel has good toughness and can maintain high strength and ductility at low temperature

Easy machinability: Martensitic stainless steel has good plasticity and machinability, and can be molded and processed by cold working, hot working and welding.

Weldability: The weldability of martensitic stainless steels is generally poor due to the fact that martensitic steels tend to harden when heated and naturally cooled or quenched. However, some specific grades of martensitic stainless steel (e.g., 12Cr13) have better weldability.

Heat treatment process

The properties of martensitic stainless steels are highly dependent on their heat treatment process. The mechanical properties of martensitic stainless steels can be adjusted to meet the needs of different application scenarios through heat treatments such as quenching and tempering.
