Galvalumed steel is carbon steel coated with an alloy that combines the impervious properties of aluminum with the malleability and galvanic protection of zinc. The alloy coating gives galvalumed steel coil and sheet a smooth, plain finish. Galvalumed steel plate is more corrosion-resistant than galvanized steel, but because aluminum provides barrier protection instead of galvanic protection, scratches and cut edges are less protected. Galvalume is offered in both bare and pre-coated versions. Resistance to corrosion is the main advantage of galvalume metal. Its signature, high performing zinc-aluminum-silicon coating holds up in rain, ice, snow and where high temperatures are common, surpassing the protection provided by galvanized and galvannealed metal.
