Stainless steel channel bar has two types depending on its outlook: stainless steel U channel and stainless steel C channel. U channel and C channel are very similar, but there're some difference. Stainless steel C channel has tapered flanges which start out thicker from the web and thin down as they progress to the end of the total width. Stainless steel U channel has the parallel flanges.
There are a series of stainless steel channel bars available, such as 304, 304L, 316, 316L, 430, 904L etc.
As above mentioned, C channel has tapered flanges while U channel has the parallel flanges. C channels are used for industrial and structural applications, such as cable tray support and framing applications for equipment skid etc. With the parallel flange channel, U Channel can be made from square or rectangle tubing by cutting the top section away, die extrusion processes and extrude them through specific shaped dies.
There are two standards to show the channel dimensions - UPE and UPN. UPE is for the C channel steel with parallel flanges while UPN for the U channel steel with tapered flanges.
