ASTM A53 steel is a carbon steel alloy, with the property of high strength, high tensile strength. ASTM A53 is intended for mechanical and pressure applications, specially in low pressure. ASTM A53 is an American standard grade, it is equivalent to Q235, St45. A53-F equals to China's q235 material, A53-A equals to China's 10# material, and A53-B corresponds to China's 20# material.

Due to the high strength, and high tensile strength, ASTM A53 is suitable for welding and for forming operations involving coiling, bending, and flanging, subject to certain qualifications. And it is also used in ordinary uses in steam, water, gas and air lines, and pipelines. ASTM A53 has two grades: grade A and grade B. ASTM A53 Grade B has higher strength and resilience. Therefore ASTM A53 Grade B is more suitable used in industrial, plumbing, and mechanical while Grade A is suitable for general structural and low-pressure.
