Stainless steel 409 is a ferritic steel with good mechanical properties and high temperature corrosion resistance. It contains 11% chromium, which is the minimum amount to form a passivated surface film that makes the stainless steel resistant to corrosion. 409 stainless steel has good resistance to high-temperature corrosion, medium strength, good formability and overall cost.
