Advantages

201 Stainless Steel is a low-cost alternative to traditional 304 Stainless Steel. 201 Stainless Steel has approximately half the nickel content of 304 Stainless Steel. Instead, the nickel is replaced by an alloy with added manganese and nitrogen. This change also makes Stainless Steel 201 stronger than Stainless Steel 304. Copper is added to compensate for the increased work hardening rate. This alloy is non-magnetic in the annealed condition, but becomes magnetic when cold worked.
